HCL Islander v1.3.8 – Vari-Mu compressor with clipper
This is the Islander – our interpretation of Handcrafted Labs’ ingenious parallel tube design.
Compressor Features :
• Stereo and Mid-side modes, linking or dual mono.
• Two gain controls: one for WET and one for DRY.
• Gain Link function provides feedback of your movements between the
gain controls, allowing you to blend wet and dry sounds.
• Threshold to control the start of the compressor’s response.
• Attack from 0.2ms to 40ms.
• Release from 50ms to 2000ms.
• VU meters to measure compression.
• Feedback and feedforward sidechain at both 75Hz and 150Hz,
plus of course full range. Channel selectable and mixable between internal and external inputs
Additional Features :
• Pro-grade clipper lets you push LUFS to the limit, and beyond.
• Different emphasis styles for the wet and dry sides. The wet side saturates for a brighter tone,
while the dry side saturates for a smoother tone.
• Since not everything is completely linear, we’ve also included level calibration.
• Control linking lets you control both sides of the compressor
with just one set of moves.
• Delta monitoring lets you hear how the original signal changes.
• Oversampling lets you achieve the smoothest possible performance

Varis is a mastering all-tube compressor featuring the Vari-mu point-to-point design.
