Description: Arcology is a fusion of architecture with ecology, an integrated urban perspective. In nature, as organisms evolve, they become more complex and become a more compact system. The city should develop in the same way, functioning as a living system. The iconic city of Arcosanti, Arizona, puts this concept to the test by radically reorganizing its expansive urban landscape into a dense, integrated, three-dimensional mini-city that fosters community, creativity, and connection to the environment.

What does Arcology sound like? Splice Explores: Arcology dives into a sonic exploration of how architecture shapes sound and the experience of living in unique reverberant forms. The Splice team returned to Arcosanti to collaborate with local artists Adam Taylor, Pinto Bella, and Ace Schutte to share their story of this unique architectural space through sound.

We captured wandering flutes bouncing off cavernous arches, accordion loops inside a wind tunnel, harp melodies echoing down a concrete staircase, and the beat of metal percussion inside a half-dome fake. Combined with beautiful field recordings of the natural environment, this package is an eclectic and stunning collection of versatile sounds that demonstrate how the space we occupy shapes our listening experiences. Immerse yourself in these unique samples and shape your own sound structure.
