Description: We are very excited to release our first episode with producer and sound engineer Kieron Menzies! This four-part installment explores the creative process behind Lana Del Rey’s 2015 single “High by the Beach.” Kieron talks about how he wrote, produced and mixed the record, which led to collaborations with Lana, songwriter Rick Novels and other musicians. He explains how he took the artist’s vision into account and aimed to convey it soundly through a hazy, lo-fi aesthetic that combines hip-hop and psychedelic influences. You will learn how he programmed the beats and bass lines, tracked vocals, arranged the parts, and used a variety of creative mixing techniques to create the distinctive sound of Honeymoon. In addition to focusing on this project, Menzies describes his hybrid setup, compares analog and digital summation, and shares his philosophy of innovating while staying true to concept.
