Description: STRING FORMATIONS String Formations is a collection of long string textures and gestural effects that can expand the capabilities of traditional string libraries and bring a sense of nuance and humanity to your compositions.
Consisting of a small chamber ensemble of three violins, violas and cellos, this dynamic group is ideal for scoring on a smaller scale or doubling and combining with a larger ensemble instrument to add movement to more traditionally static string libraries.
Recorded in the large room of Nave Studio 1, String Formations offers three mic angles that help blend with other instruments. The near mic provides excellent dry sound, while the near and far mics give a better view of the room. The library expands on the innovative programming we introduced with Smart Trills in Petrichor, with our Chordal Textures patch. When Smart Mode is enabled on these articulations, chord playback automatically triggers specific interval relationships, creating a textural tapestry in your composition.
We also provided 16 atmospheric layers created by processing the original raw samples. They can be used in conjunction with the core set of articulations or in our Layer Blends engine to expand the sonic capabilities of the library.
CHORD TEXTURES :
This set of seven articulations uses a sophisticated performance engine that analyzes the notes that are currently being held and intelligently plays samples that move between the different notes held, adding a unique way of playing chords to a library of string textures.
When Smart Mode is enabled, you can play freely without worrying about selecting specific scales or modes. However, there are options for highlighting individual intervals, which can sometimes lead to inspiring chord solutions when improvising with a library.
In the settings panel of each articulation there is also an opportunity to increase the density of simultaneous playback of many possible intervals. This not only provides greater control over the library’s timbre, but also adds another dimension to the instrument’s on-the-fly dynamics.
ENSEMBLE :
Three players in each section of violins, violas and cellos make up the ensemble for this library. This dynamic ensemble can be easily scaled for any production. Playing chords with two hands creates a more symphonic texture, while individual notes and chord textures at low density create a more intimate ensemble sound.
Unlike other string libraries, where each section of an instrument was recorded separately, players in string formations were recorded in a room together, creating a more cohesive ensemble sound.
UNISON TEXTURES :
The basis of the string formations are 16 unison articulations that support the texture of the chords. They range from evolving longs to more unusual pitch bends (drifts), repeating pizzicatos (drops) and bursts. As shown in the step-by-step guide, they can be used individually as part of compositions or creatively combined to expand the sonic capabilities of the library.
