Description : Texture Mozaik’s main idea was to create a tool based on sound design techniques used in some films and experimental composers of the 50s and 70s.
The name of the tool suggests that it mainly focuses on textures – and yes, it is designed to mix 2 or 3 sound sources to create evolving old school sounds, but due to the number of tonal sources available in Texture Mozaik, it is definitely much more than just “Background generator”. In fact, as you can hear in the available audio demonstrations, Texture Mozaik is quite capable of creating melodic parts or even creating basic harmony (no other tools were used in the audio demonstrations except Texture Mozaik).
Sources of Sound – Texture Mozaik contains more than 120 unique sources of sound, inspired by the sounds of the past, when recorded on tapes, ribbons were cut, then glued and looped, passed through spring reverbs, etc.
Here you will find dark, dirty sounds, as well as those subtle delicate ones that can be complementary to others. For example, one of the sounds included in Texture Mozaik is a bowed acoustic guitar, the strings of which were connected by a spring with a metal pot hanging on a tripod, which worked as an additional resonator. You will also find many classic sounds here, such as violin, chromatic bells, flute and more. As always, all of the included sounds went through several different tape decks. Each sound source has been thoroughly noise-free using a high-quality algorithm to avoid overlapping sound when playing more than one note. But noise, if necessary, can be added using the noise button – it is much more flexible and allows you to adjust the volume independently of each other, while applying parameters such as filtering. This also creates a more realistic sound, so if you play several notes at the same time, only one pattern of noise will be heard, rather than several ones stacked on top of each other.
Interface – This is the main part of the tool – here you can load sound sources for sources A, B and C and shape them according to your needs, using, for example, a volume curve, a filter, an lfo envelope and a pitch or even randomize some parameters using the button Random. You can mix SOURCE A and SOURCE B using the MIX knob, MIDI controller or MIX MOD.
It is also possible to change the beginning of the playback of the sample of each sound source or even change the position and length of the loop in each sound source, if the loop editing mode is active.
At the bottom (below the SOURCE C) there are controls for WOW and FLUTTER that allow you to add additional sound instability (in addition to the natural Wow and Flutter added to the samples with cassette recorders).
There are also controls for adjusting the nature of the COLOR noise and its level (MIX), as well as a menu for selecting 4 different noise patterns.
Finally, there are two effects on the message: a convolutional reverb (with custom pulses: 4 spring, 4 halls and 3 corridors) with two controls: BODY (select it to get a fuller, more metallic sound) and a MIX knob. There is also a simple delay with three controls: TIME, FEEDBACK and MIX.
Fx / Mix Modulation – Here you can adjust the parameters of the available effects, turn them on and off and load the presets. You can also save and load your own presets.
There is also a step sequencer (synchronized with the host tempo) to modulate the MIX knob — you can change the speed / length of the steps using the LENGTH option. It is also possible to randomize the value of each step with the RANDOM button or reset it with the RESET button.
