I think it’s going to be a while before these audio-to-MIDI apps get tight enough to match the cheapest hardware solution….. I’ve got a beast of a system here but find it gets lagged by audio-to-MIDI software. I have the Sonuus i2m USB audio-to-MIDI unit and it’s blazing fast in tracking (just a tiny bit of plugging here….. so to speak). The only shortcoming I find is it’s mono, not polyphonic……. which, although the Roland GK pickups and GR-55 are fully poly, it’s a lot different than keyboard in terms of clarity when playing chords. Regardless, the i2m plays ANY VSTi smooth and clean, and also can be used solely as the USB audio interface, which also tracks with incredible response.
VSTorrent guru, thanks for this portal to the best sort of catalog…… no better way to learning what’s even being produced and by what sources. The learning curves get steeper as they jam more and more capabilities into packages, so pretty much everything amounts solely to eye and ear candy, then is retired for disk space’s sake, but this happens to be the most coherent means of discovering the tools and trends out there. No doubt the industry has taken a beating by the pandemic, and now the inflation situation…… while logical to expect to some extent, there’s certainly going to be some opportunism…… if someone gets away with doubling an existing price, others will certainly try as well…… and so much of it on the basis of some economist’s speculations.
Best wishes to you all from the Chesapeake Bay 🙂
