Description: Houdini 22 brings powerful workflow improvements to every stage of production. From a refreshed interface and production-ready Gaussian Splats to accelerated tools for character work, modeling, look development, VFX, and environment generation, this release optimizes the pipeline, offering faster performance, expanded procedural flexibility, and powerful new tools. All of this will help artists deliver the highest quality results in film, games, motion design, and other fields.
The updated Houdini UI is more modern, intuitive, and customizable for a better overall user experience. The new design simplifies learning, navigation, and interface customization, allowing artists to work more efficiently and stay focused on their creativity.
What’s new?
UI/UX: Improved usability with customizable themes, searchable settings, more informative tooltips, improved color tools, and visual gradient editing.
Gaussian Splats: Allows artists to interactively create, animate, relight, simulate, and composite photorealistic 3D assets.
Characters: Animators and riggers can use procedural workflows to reduce setup time and improve collaboration across all stages of the character pipeline.
CFX: CFX artists can iterate faster with improved muscle, soft tissue, crowd, and hair/fur workflows for more realistic simulations.
Modeling: Updates enhance topology, subdivision workflows, procedural tools, and curve animation, providing a faster, higher-quality, and more flexible modeling process. Lookdev: Solaris now features new layout, environment assembly, and set dressing tools. Copernicus texture tools (such as new dirt maps and baking tools) have been polished and are production-ready.
VFX: Priority has been given to workflow improvements, including faster destruction, metal tearing with the Bullet Solver, production-ready GPU Pyro in Copernicus, and a variety of Pyro FX presets (recipes).
World Building: Landscapes and oceans have been migrated to Copernicus, providing higher performance, unified workflows, texture-based simulations, and game-ready animated maps.
