Embertone – The William Arnold Collection: Shan Bawu (KONTAKT)

By | February 1, 2018

Shan Bawu is a library for Kontakt, in which the world flutist William Arnold sounds.
Bawu is a flamboyant reed instrument with a clean, clarinet-like tone that (most likely) arose in Yunnan Province in southwest China. It is usually presented as a solo instrument in modern Chinese compositions for traditional ensembles and films. Despite the fact that Bawu is still predominantly held in China, in recent years it has been used by many European composers and performers.

But now, thanks to Embertone’s collaboration with world flutist, vocalist and extraordinary session musician William Arnold, the debut of the virtual wind instrument Shān Bawu took place. Many artists and composers can get to know the high expressiveness of the instrument with a variety of transition styles, such as slur, slide, ornamental and MICROPHRASE. Moreover, Shan Bawu is the first virtual tool from Embertone, which includes the newest technology of transitions – four variants of beautiful, complex phrases created by William Arnold himself. Indeed, these are functions that raise Shan Bawu to a whole new level of realism as a simple, inspiring and high-performance virtual tool.

Built from scratch with William’s perfect musical approach, performances and articulations in accordance with his unique and beautiful style along with a variety of useful configuration settings in accordance with the style of the game, for example, using a modulation wheel for vibrato and an expression pedal for dynamics. Shān Bawu is sure to please those who want to make an unforgettable musical journey into the beautiful world of traditional Chinese brass music, including the ability to designate an aspirator for CC2 for additional realism during the game.
