UNCLE SAM is an extended virtual version of the famous Oberheim SEM module.
It has all the advanced features that were too expensive to realize in hardware at that time, like full equipped envelopes, 3 oscillators, polyphony, ring modulator, effect unit and so on.
“Under the hood” there is the same emulation of analog circuitry we used in the predecessor “SAM” to produce the well known, warm and analogue sound. With the new extras, the sound range of the plugin is remarkable extended:
- Full-fledged envelopes.
- Third (sub) oscillator.
- Ring modulator.
- Delay with host sync.
- Dual chorus (Roland style).
- Stereo detuner/chorus (Superwave style).
- Extra envelope for ringmod/noise/VCO mod.
- Filter blend between LP-HP and Comb /Notch / BP.
- LP/HP/BP filter switchable between 12db / 24db.
Just the sight of the front panel of this beast conjures serious nostalgia…… taking Electronic Music Production courses at California’s Long Beach City College in mid-70’s, the lab, equipped with the gear below, was possibly the best in the nation at that time:
—- the Oberheim 4-voice was four of the modules seen here, with a keyboard base.
—- ARP Odyssey
—- Moog modular, model unknown but close enough to Keith Emerson’s rig
—- Eventide Clockworks 16-step hardware sequencer
The reel-to-reel TEAC 3340S 4-track with SimulSync, and a mixing board of brand I don’t recall.
Not sure how this SAM behaved on Win 10 x64 in Cubase 10, J-bridged because this synth is 32-bit….. might have been another WOK product……. thanks for the find 🙂
