Add. information :

Steinberg has released a new version of DAW Steinberg Cubase 12. The update brings a new licensing system, a redesigned crossfade engine, and other useful features.
The main innovation of the update was the rejection of the licensing system with a USB key. As promised earlier, Cubase 12 is now linked to a Steinberg ID account and can work without an eLicenser dongle.
As in the case of the Steinberg Dorico music editor, the license is tied to an account in the Steinberg system, the company noted. Each time you start the DAW, it will check the license information on the developers’ servers. It is noted that the program will repeat the call to the servers every 30 days.
However, the developers have retained the ability to work offline. To obtain an activation key file, you must log in to your Steinberg ID account and go through the offline licensing procedure. According to Steinberg, the key file will be valid for a year, after which users will need to repeat the licensing process.
Cubase 12 has received improved integration with MIDI controllers. So, for example, the program now supports MIDI Remote Scripts, which automatically detect the connected device and assign control. If the DAW does not find a script for the device, users can create their own layout to control the program.
The Scale Assistant function has appeared in the VariAudio editor for changing the pitch, suggesting notes in the scale. This solution makes it easier to change the pitch of sounds, Steinberg notes. The function can work in manual or automatic mode. In the latter case, the key and notes are determined based on certain notes in the audio file.
The functionality of converting audio to MIDI has acquired the Chord Assistant system, which analyzes the audio signal and converts it into MIDI data. The system also suggests variations and alternate performances based on key and chords found, and creates corresponding events on the track.
Cubase 12 has more crossfade control. According to the developers, users will be able to more flexibly adjust the transitions between audio files to achieve seamless performance.
In the project window, it became possible to set the accuracy of alignment to the grid. For example, users can align audio regions to a grid with 1 millisecond precision.
The Range Selection tool has received new shortcuts to simplify project navigation. New keyboard shortcuts will make it easier to create fades, change events and regions. The developers advise users to take a look at the shortcut library before starting to work with Cubase 12 to see the new keyboard shortcuts and what they do.
The Free Warp tool has learned how to change and edit audio files in the project window, while group editing of files is available to users through the Group Editing function. Among other innovations, developers note the AudioWarp mode for audio editing without phase problems.
The Sample Editor window has been improved. Now users have access to new options for displaying information and a simpler and more intuitive interface.
Cubase 12 has two new instruments – Raiser and FX Modulator. The former is an advanced dynamics processing tool with particularly low attack and release values, so it can be used to increase the volume of mixes without sacrificing transients.
The second plugin offers a wide range of modulation effects, making the FX Modulator suitable for classic ducking or creating rhythmic patterns. The processor allows you to create custom LFOs, use up to six modulation modules simultaneously, and also work in sidechain mode.
The library of virtual instruments has been replenished with the Verve grand piano. According to the developers, the instrument will offer the warm and somewhat melancholy sound of a grand piano, recorded at Yamaha Studios in Los Angeles.
Among other changes, the developers note support for Bluetooth MIDI in the Windows environment, exporting audio from tracks taking into account information on the sidechain, importing tempo from other projects, and more precise volume automation. The new version of the DAW also features improved Nuendo integration, Logical Editor improvements, and full compatibility with Apple Silicon chips.
