Description: This second instrumental set from Splice Sessions: Senegal features the bark, a strikingly beautiful lute-bridge harp instrument synonymous with West African culture. The sound of the bark is similar to the sound of a harp. Although played in a traditional style, its sounds are more similar to the Flamenco guitar and Delta blues technique.
Both hands are used to break the strings in a polyrhythmic manner, while the remaining fingers secure the instrument by holding the struts on both sides of the strings. Ostinato’s riffs (“Kumbengo”) and improvised solos (“Birimintingo”) are played simultaneously by experienced players.
For this set, kora Edouard Manga (who plays Edou Kora) met with As Malick Diouf on guitar and Django Diabate at ngoni at LaBoutique Studio in Dakar. While creating these sounds, they improvised loops in various folk styles. You will also find one shot in different keys.
