Description : Dhol is an Armenian percussion instrument
Punch through the midrange with this powerful percussion from the South Caucasus. This hand drum is the main rhythmic percussion accompaniment for folk music in the region and is now available to add an authentic touch of energy and movement to your compositions. Tired of using taiko to add energy to your compositions? Try the dhol . It has much the same midrange and can both heighten the emotion and tension in a cinematic piece and create a solid rhythmic foundation for folk music styles.

Dhol Ensemble was recorded at the beautifully equipped Georgian Film Studios in Tbilisi, Georgia. Recorded in tandem with a central percussionist, it creates a true 5-piece ensemble feel. With 5 velocity layers and 8 circular repeats included in this carefully sampled instrument, the possibilities for customizing the authentic percussion phrases are virtually endless.

The Caucasian dhol is a double-sided barrel drum traditionally used in the Caucasus to galvanize warriors before battle. It has a distinct sound that sets it apart from its Iranian and Indian counterparts, which were struck with mallets. The Georgian and Armenian dhol we present here is played with the hands, which gives it a different sound due to the nature of the attack. This is what makes the Dhol Ensemble so special – the intimacy and energy of hand percussion combined with the massiveness and immediacy of a full ensemble.
