Description: Join us at Tarquin Studios in Conneticut, home of respected indie producer and engineer Peter Katis! In this video series we will focus on The Swell Season’s song “Low Rising”. Opening the initial mixing session, Katis talks about the production, design and mixing process of the recording. Apart from advice on recording technique, instrument preparation and much more on tracking and producing, his main focus is on how it was mixed and how he can remix. Peter shares his 2009 ITB processing applied before analog summing and its master circuit. Referencing the original mix, he sets himself the task of achieving an excellent result, then prints two versions – one with its own complex summing chain, and the other purely digital. He compares the new mixes to each other and to the original, and discusses a variety of topics including analog and digital sound, volume, acoustics and more!
