Description: Join us at Red Bull Studios in New York for a mixing series with analog fanatic Russell Elevado! Using an SSL 9000 J-Series console and quality external hardware, the renowned engineer creates a new mix of “Till It’s Done” by D’Angelo. Elevado shares his rationale for not using plugins, comparing hardware to emulation plugins. He also discusses the benefits of a console workflow, elaborates on the differences between SSL models, explains why he doesn’t use the master chain most often, and introduces you to the hardware used in this project. As you watch Russell mix a multitrack mix from scratch, you’ll see how he creatively uses EQ, compression, tape effects and more for vocals, drums, bass, guitar, and keyboards. Besides methods, you will learn his thoughts on sampling rate, monitoring, creativity under stress, and other relevant subjects.
