Description: A specialized graphics application that provides the user with a wide range of tools for working with textures in 2D and 3D modeling:
Real-time texture mapping. Work with textures is organized so that the user sees the result during their application. Each stroke is instantly applied to all channels.
Layers. Thanks to them, the workflow in Substance Painter is very similar to that in Adobe Photoshop. It is based on a stack of layers that can be added, removed, merged with each other,
hide, etc. An intuitive hierarchy makes it easy to apply and modify effects in models.
Working with particles. In Substance Painter, you can recreate realistic rain, smoke, flames, snow, dust, dirt and overlay them on 3D objects.
To work with particles, brushes are used, which can be selected from a predefined set, modified and created by yourself.
Using shaders. The user can import their own shaders and create channels for drawing. For example, Substance Painter allows you to apply
physically correct Physically-Based Shader or non-photorealistic “cartoon” Toon Shader.
Effects and brushes. You can create them yourself or apply ready-made ones to layer masks – for example, for realistic aging.
Brushes and effects allow you to paint parametric textures directly on the model, adjusting their characteristics to achieve the desired look.
Advanced 2D. Substance has a 2D mode with dynamic shadows, a freely rotating canvas, and seamless 2D painting.
In this way, Substance Painter combines the integrity of 3D with the convenience of a flexible 2D mode.
Add. information:
A major new feature in Substance 3D Painter 9.0 is the 3D path system, which allows you to apply paint strokes to your model along editable guide curves.
Users can draw bezier-based curves on top of a 3D model by clicking on its surface in the viewport, with Substance 3D Painter automatically applying a stroke of paint along the curve.
Closing the curve creates a smoothly repeating pattern.
The workflow is continuous, with both the brush properties and the curve itself remaining editable throughout the process,
which allows you to change the shape or appearance of existing paint strokes.
In addition to drawing, users will be able to erase or smudge existing layers of paint along the path. The new 3D path system can be used to create or edit layers – masks,
as well as drawing layers. The implementation supports other standard drawing features such as symmetry and dynamic strokes.
The feature does not work with some existing tool brushes, but comes with new tool presets for creating stitches, zippers, welds, creases, and seams.
In addition to the above, the dynamic stroke system has been updated, which changes the properties of the brush stamp along the length of the stroke.
New features include the ability to define the stamp used for the start, middle, and end of a stroke, as well as size and spacing properties between strokes.
There are new stroke length properties for use with the 3D path system, allowing, among other things, the creation of strokes with repeating patterns that update based on distance traveled.
Substance 3D Painter default base materials have been updated “to make them more useful for everyone”. Legacy materials are still available through the Adobe Substance 3D Assets Online Library.
Other changes include the ability to update textures in the library when reloading gITF files.
