The product is aimed at users who are looking for a powerful functionally comprehensive vector editor and at the same time simple and intuitive – not distracting from the work with the complexity and intricacies of the interface.
Keeping all the good things of Illustrator CS3, the CS4 version has received new features. The main ones are:

  • Multiple artboards in a document – You can create multi-page files containing up to 100 artboards of various sizes.
Created artboards can overlap, be adjacent to each other, or be on top of each other. Artboards can be saved, exported, and printed independently or together.
  • Tabbed document windows and document organizing palette – You can display multiple documents with tabs or open them side by side, easily compare them, and drag and drop items from one to another. Just click the document’s tab to open it, or
click “Close (x)” on the tab to close it.
  • Practical “quick” guides – “Quick” guides have become even more practical thanks to their unobtrusive look and behavior. Momentary pop-ups display alignment and measurement information such as differences between objects and rotation angles (which can be specified) when an object moves or transforms.
  • Quick, simple and clear key object alignment – The Alignment palette and Control panel now provide quick access to key alignment options. A key object is one object to which you want to align other objects.
  • Blob brush tool for merging paths – Blob brush tool used to draw paths that are merged with existing ones
images. The Blob Brush tool draws paths that have only a fill but no stroke, and can be merged with an existing artwork that has the same fill but no stroke. A stroke with the Blob Brush tool can be combined with an existing artwork that has a complex look (as long as the artwork has no stroke and the Blob Brush tool is set to paint with the same fill and the same appearance settings.
  • Improved Palette and Gradient Tool – Using the improved Gradient Tool, you can work with object gradients by adding or modifying gradient nodes, applying transparency to nodes, and changing the direction or angle of a linear or elliptical gradient (also new in CS4).
  • Transparency in gradients – You can create gradients from two or more colors and set the transparency of any individual color. By setting different opacity values for different gradient nodes, you can create fade in or fade out gradients or reveal and hide underlying images.
  • Color separations palette – Preview color separations on your monitor before printing to avoid color output errors such as unintended spot colors and overprinting. The Separations palette lets you easily turn colors on and off, allowing you to see how aliasing, transparency, and aliasing will appear when separations are output.
