Presser by Aiden Kenway:
Introducing the superstar compressor plugin. With powerful controls and an intuitive interface, this exclusive collaboration between artists allows you to effortlessly change the dynamic range of your audio signals while adding punch and presence. Presser was developed in collaboration with producer and YouTube remake legend Aiden Kenway. The plugin uses proprietary processing chains from his projects, which not only transform the dynamics, but also shape the character of the audio. Whether you need to shape transients, give momentum, or glue an entire mix together, Presser has you covered with one plug-in.
About Aiden Kenway
Having redefined the producer space in his career as a teacher and YouTuber, Aiden Kenway teaches his 240,000 subscribers the art of making music. Main characteristics
Character:
The GLUE control changes the behavior of the compressor’s detector and processor. If set to 0%, the Presser will act as a fast peak compressor, dampening transients. At 100%, the Compressor Model will behave like a classic tire compressor, producing more consistent changes and a smoother sound.
Use the PUNCH dial to sharpen transients with the built-in dynamic EQ. With this control, you can make drums, snares, bass lines and more sharper and tighter.
HEAT adds analog-style saturation before and after the compressor, introducing harmonics and sonic artifacts. Adjust the knob from subtle warmth to hard overdrive.
Detector:
The CHANNEL LINK control lets you choose whether the stereo channels are processed independently or together. This feature allows for greater control over the behavior of the compressor, providing subtly different processing for each channel, or maintaining a stereo image.
HIGH-PASS controls the frequency of the high pass filter for detection. This helps to reduce the unwanted pumping effect at finer compression settings.
It’s a common technique to sidechain a compressor to another audio trigger. Of course, we had to include it in the Presser, but with a special twist. The variable control can be set to any level between 0% (normal compression) and 100% (sidechain input only), allowing for some sidechain creative possibilities.
The basics done right:
Presser is the first compressor plugin you should run, with all the controls you know and love. Aside from Aiden Kenway’s innovative additions, it has all the basic compression settings you need for everyday use. This makes Presser a versatile and powerful tool for shaping the dynamic range of a wide range of different types of audio. The Ratio, Threshold, Attack, Release, and Makeup Gain controls are present and working properly, allowing you to fine-tune the compressor’s behavior to suit your signal’s needs and your desired creative effect.
Input, Output, Mix, Bypass and Limiter:
Choose how the compressed signal mixes with the original unprocessed audio using the MIX ratio control, allowing you to dial in a wet/dry signal for a parallel compression effect. Press the LIMITER button to limit the output of the plugin. Apply more signal to the limiter using the OUTPUT setting, resulting in more clipping and louder results. The BYPASS control has been smoothed out to be as free of clicks and pops as possible for seamless A/B testing.
Visual Feedback:
Visual indicators of the interface show exactly what happens to the signal as it passes through the stages of compression in real time. This allows precise monitoring at every stage of the chain.
Presets:
With the many artist-created presets included, it’s easy to find the perfect starting point for your compression session. Named and categorized, these presets can be applied to any audio material and include everything from subtle shaping to more complex chains with heavily processed compression effects.
