Description: Mickey Hart is best known as the drummer for the Grateful Dead, who for three decades captured the voices and visions of rockβs psychedelic counterculture and blended them with folk, blues, country, jazz and other American musical influences. As a result of this work, Hart was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and included in Rolling Stone magazineβs list of the 100 greatest drummers of all time.
As part of his ongoing research, Hart recorded the vibrations of the Golden Gate Bridge, which he describes as a giant harp of wind, and collected data on stem cells, heartbeats and brain waves to create compositions. His work with Dr. Adam Gazzaley, a leading neuroscientist, aims to identify rhythms that can stimulate different parts of the diseased and damaged brain, leading to new and innovative treatment approaches. Back in 1990, Hart testified about rhythm and music therapy before the Senate Subcommittee on Aging. For all its diversity, his lifeβs work can be described simply: finding rhythm everywhere and in everything, he invites us to share in his inexhaustible vitality.
