Maleventum 2 is a Kontakt library inspired by the ethnic flutes of ancient Native American cultures from the pre-Hispanic period. In the wake of the highly acclaimed Maleventum 1, based on the Viking war horns, we have partnered with Nomada Ceramica, a collective of musicians and instrument makers from Argentina aiming to faithfully reproduce the flutes of the Aztec, Mayan and Inca civilizations over 3,000 years ago.
We have recorded a staggering number of original Aztec flutes and whistles, double flutes, rare panflutes (Antara Nazca), whistles and death figurines (Estatuillas), Tlapitzali (a typical Andean instrument), didgeridoo, war trumpets (known as the “Trompeta Moche” tiger with a special sound), and a one-of-a-kind whistle called Vasija Silbadora (“Whispering Vessel”), which uses a two-vessel hydraulic system to create an eerie, challenging, creature-like call.
