The Laidback Limiter is a powerful two-stage brickwall limiter with a twist. One of the secrets of mastering engineers around the world is the pre-clipping process. Essentially, this is pre-processing the transients of the track using a clipper or saturator to create a headroom for the final brickwall limiting stage. Laidback Limiter makes this process as simple as possible, extending this technique by integrating a unique multi-band clipper with perfect automatic gain. Combined with the ultimate brickwall limiter, this makes Laidback Limiter the ideal plugin for maximizing the volume of your tracks.
Multi-band clipping with perfect auto gain
Instead of a conventional clipper, the Laidback Limiter features a unique multi-band clipper with perfect auto gain. This means you can cut each of the four frequency ranges, automatically maintaining the volume and tonal balance of your track. This makes cutting different frequency regions of a track extremely easy and intuitive. In addition, each clipper has an attack control to pass transients, a release control to smooth out clipping distortion, and a stereo link control to change how the clipper behaves in the stereo field. Together, the plugin’s multi-band clippers allow you to pre-clip a track with surgical precision.
Maximizing Volume
After pre-trimming a track using the multi-band section of the plugin, you can mix the pre-trimmed signal as it enters the maximization stage. The dry signal and the clipped wet signal are perfectly phase aligned to ensure that the multi-band section does not cause phase problems. You can then use the gain control to push the track towards the plugin’s powerful brickwall limiter, increasing the track’s volume. The maximization section offers lookahead, release, transients, knee and ceiling controls to customize the behavior of the brickwall limiter and reduce any limiting artifacts.
