According to the developers, the idea of the plugin is to give the musician “unprecedented creative control over the reflection generation process.” In addition to the usual parameters of size, width and duration of reflections, the reverb gives access to tools for generating unique reverberations.
The plugin interface offers several sections – Reflections, Depth, Clean-Up, Shape. The Reflections section allows you to determine the size of the space for generating the effect, regardless of the duration of the reflections. With the Sparkle parameter, users can control treble behavior and stereo field width.
In the Depth section there are parameters for controlling the complexity of the algorithm: the more complex it is, the more complex the effect is at the output. The developers warn that increasing the complexity of the algorithm increases the load on the computer processor.
The section also provides modulation settings to create pitch changes as the signal is reflected. The Shimmer control is also located here, allowing you to slow down the attenuation of high frequencies in the reflected signal.
In the Clean-Up section, the plugin offers Damping and Sides parameters, which allow you to get a cleaner sound of frequencies in the lower bass region. The effect is achieved by removing some stereo information from the signal, the developers note. This is also where the noise gate is located, thanks to which the plugin can be used to create gated reflections in the spirit of the 1980s.
Finally, the Shape section combines the equalizer, treble softening control, and transient control knob. According to Baby Audio, transient control allows you to focus the reverb on the attack or sustain phase of the signal.
Crystalline also features a feature that synchronizes the time at which reflections first appear and the time at which reverberation begins to decay with the tempo of the project. This allows producers to achieve a more accurate reverb effect that is in sync with the music.
The plugin provides a ducking mode, options for generating reverse reverb and freezing the effect. The latter is responsible for the endless generation of reflections with the same parameters.
