Description: The second product of the ongoing and very fruitful collaboration with MagicDeathEye is the accurate emulation of their stereo compressor and equalizer. From the hardware description: “A stereo compressor is two mono compressor circuits with some extras for mastering and bus compression. This new version has an added equalizer section. There are two (boost only) bands with two frequency samples each. An equalizer is built into the amplifier structure on a variable slope tube.

This means that the processing does not take place before or after the compression section, it is inside it! The EQ circuit is based on inductance and has wide curves to give program material a little something else. There is also a dual frequency low frequency mode for enhanced bass control. The gain of the bands can be 5 dB or 3 dB, separated between 5 steps. Sounds absolutely incredible!

So besides the second channel, which, unlike its hardware prototype, has already been added to the “mono” MDE plugin, we have an EQ section here, and the compression curve is actually quite different from the mono version. If you ask about the difference in the assignment of these two parameters, a mono compressor will usually work on separate tracks, while a stereo compressor, with its noticeably smoother compression curve and additional EQ parameters, will work on the main bus.

Of course, by trying to stay as close to the hardware as possible in terms of sound, we again allowed ourselves to implement some additional pluses in the software plug-in: the high-frequency EQ can be applied to the full stereo field, the midfield, or just the side signal. Conversely, for the low-frequency range, an additional elliptical filter on the side signal will be very useful for mastering. The amount of harmonic distortion can range from 0 to 100 percent, where 50 percent is the level of the hardware block. Input and output gain can be linked. Finally, the plugin has the option of 2x or even 4x oversampling!

MagicDeathEye – Everyone who has ever had the opportunity to listen to the MagicDeathEye compressor was amazed at its sound. Meticulously designed by Mr. Jan Sefchik (Mastering Engineer at Capitol Records), this tube compressor circuitry is loosely based on the Fairchild 660. It’s a variable gain compressor that sounds as great on your mastering bus as it does on your individual tracks. Nothing is broken here, everything breathes and shines, while MagicDeathEye smoothly glues your audio signal together in a warm and almost elegant way that only expensive tube compressors can use.

Already a legendary hardware component, the MagicDeathEye compressor is very good to be exclusively available only to some of the world’s greatest studios. After nearly a year of thorough analysis of circuits and signals, DDMF and Jan Sefchik are proud to present the official version of this beautiful beast plugin! By staying as close to our hardware model as possible while keeping the processor load at a very reasonable level, we truly believe that the answer to the perennial question “Do I need another compressor plugin” is an emphatic yes for that!
