In the world of post-EDM, one sound is pouring out of headphones and radio speakers everywhere: SOUL. Today’s producers are taking the sounds and chord voicings of the past and fusing them with the production values and sonic textures of the future.
You can hear it in the Toronto-style hip-hop that’s taking over global charts. You can hear it in the gritty, soulful vocals of artists like Rag’n’Bone Man, or the neo-retro sound of Jorja Smith, Frank Ocean, and John Legend. Soul is everywhere—a welcome return to rich, complex chords, moving away from the “stadium-style” power chords that have dominated electronic music for the last decade.
Before creating this massive pack, we asked ourselves: “What do we personally want from ’21st Century Soul’?” The answer was simple: big, fat musical hooks—and lots of them—paired with beats that just work. For decades, vintage soul has been mined by the best hip-hop producers, but today, sampling original vinyl is simply not financially viable for 99% of artists.
A quick glance at the specifications below reveals the countless hooks, riffs, and melodies packed into this collection, but we’ve also included some brand-new concepts: “Maxi-Riffs”—huge, soulful motifs performed by top-tier live musicians across multiple instruments, practically begging to be sampled. Inspiration – Try one of these multi-instrumental mini-arrangements for instant gratification at your own pace. Resampled Loops – Once we finished, we broke the parts down and started all over again—a unique and incredibly forward-thinking approach. MIDI files are included wherever possible.
But a soul is nothing without drums, right? This pack has you covered, providing everything from “Heartbroken 808s” to layered drum arrangements and Future-Retro drum parts, all blended with an exceptional, modern edge. These are set against beautifully processed acoustic recordings.
We always strive to make our sound libraries more useful; here, we introduce “mini-stems” and loops in a single package. How many times have you bought a sample pack where everything is normalized, only to struggle to get the various beats to work together? This pack includes a collection of drum stem kits (17 Deluxe, 13 Standard) that serve as a near-perfect launchpad. The stems are designed to be dragged, dropped, and mixed—they work together seamlessly without being over-processed, leaving you plenty of room to add your own sonic signature. Standard loops are, of course, also available for every individual part (and more). Check out the video for further details.
Deluxe Edition users receive an additional 1GB of audio, featuring a whole range of extra drum sounds.
We hope you can hear from the demos and videos just how much work went into this incredible collection, and we hope you enjoy using it as much as we enjoyed creating it.
DUE TO THE LARGE FILE SIZE, THE TORRENT FILE HAS BEEN PLACED IN AN ARCHIVE.
