Canva, which now owns Affinity, introduced Affinity, a single free app for working with vector graphics, photography, and layouts.
The Affinity suite was a set of three apps: Affinity Designer (for working with vector graphics), Affinity Photo (for working with raster graphics), and Affinity Publisher (for layout design). Now Affinity offers all of the same features, but in a single app. While developers previously attempted to combine the three apps into a single workflow, each app effectively requiring separate purchase and installation, things have now become simpler—it’s all one app, and it’s free.
Supported formats include PSD, AI, PDF, SVG, TIFF, IDML, and many others. Like previous versions of Affinity Photo, the new app supports non-destructive editing of raster images without losing the original.
Affinity previously included three separate applications: Designer, Photo, and Publisher—each sold with a single license. Now they’re combined into a single tool that lets you create illustrations, edit photos, and layout without switching between programs or losing data. The app has been completely redesigned:

Integration with Canva
This is Affinity’s first major release since Canva acquired Serif in 2024. The two ecosystems are now directly connected: Affinity projects can be exported to Canva with a single click. Additionally, Canva AI Studio, a suite of AI tools for Canva Premium users, has been added within the app. Available features include:

The developers emphasize that all work created in Affinity remains under the user’s control and is not used to train artificial intelligence models.
Making Affinity free is Canva’s strategic move toward the professional market. Previously, designers often complained about the “monopoly” of subscription solutions like Adobe Creative Cloud. Now, professionals and studios have a free alternative with the same level of tools.
The Affinity brand has been around for over 10 years and has earned a reputation as a high-quality and fast alternative to Adobe. After acquiring Canva, the developers promised to maintain the product’s spirit—and judging by the release, they delivered.
Canva is transforming Affinity into a free tool for professional designers. Now, photos, vectors, and layouts live in a single window, working faster and allowing for unlimited creation. This is the biggest change in Affinity’s history and, potentially, a new standard for the entire design industry.
The available functions and their layout are largely similar to those in Photoshop and other Adobe programs, so getting the hang of them will be relatively easy.
However, there are some unique features. For example, “Filters” in Affinity are implemented as adjustment layers applied to the layers below.
Adobe raster and vector formats, as well as RAW files from various cameras, are fully supported for import, and a wide range of formats with flexible settings are also available for export.
